Protected Classes Deep Dive: LGBTQIA+ Inclusion

In our Protected Classes Deep Dive, ReadySet combines high-level definitional reframes and practical advocacy protips to fundamentally shift toward more inclusive workplaces. In this workshop, we will focus on the LGBTQIA+ community. Discrimination of LGBTQIA+ communities remains a persistent issue in the American workplace. An integral part of being a human-centered HR organization is better understanding how discrimination specifically impacts the LGBQTIA+ community. In this workshop, we will provide actionable steps toward meaningful impact in the workplace.

The objective of this training is to equip HR, employees and leaders with a wider knowledge base, cultural comfort and practical advocacy skills around LGBTQIA+ communities.

Learning Outcomes

  • Reflect on the social construction of gender and the difference between gender and sex, sex assigned at birth, sexual orientation and gender expression

  • Knowledge of high impact discrimination issues facing LGBTQIA+ communities

  • Familiarity and ease using gender neutral pronouns

  • Comfort addressing the harm of misgendering, violating privacy, using narrow language

  • Practical skills and suggestions for advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community

  • Gender expansive terminology

  • Gender identity, presentation, sexual identity and biological sex and how they influence and shape the workplace

  • Pragmatic tips and techniques on preventing and addressing LGBTQIA+ marginalization in the workplace

  • Actionable protips on showing up for LGBQTIA+ colleagues

Methodology

Learning sessions are highly interactive and participatory to encourage active learning and engagement with the material. Workshops will likely include lecture presentation, small and large group discussion, and scenario discussion.
