Protected Class Deep Dive: Disability Inclusion

The ReadySet Effective Communication workshop provides organizations with the tools to communicate effectively and across teams, levels, and identities. In this session, ReadySet facilitators will share tried and true tactics and helpful frameworks to overcome communication challenges and create a culture of effective communication.

Participants will be given concrete tools to communicate across differences, engage in tough conversations, hear and recognize the contributions of all colleagues, and resolve conflicts in healthy and respectful ways. This workshop empowers teams to build new norms for communication and to develop a collective vision for organizational culture moving forward.

  • How ableism and discrimination manifest and impact disabled employees

  • Moving from the medical to the social model of disability

  • A high-level foundation on disability accommodations and acces

  • Actionable tactics on giving and processing feedback

  • Definitions of disability

  • A high-level overview of different disabled experiences, including neurodiversity and mental health conditions

  • Applicable discussions of scenarios of disability in the workplace

  • A practical compare and contrast for the medical model vs. the social model of disability

  • A visualization of disability equity and foundational knowledge around universal design

Methodology

This session integrates self-reflection activities with best practices for effective cultural and communication strategies, for a highly interactive and organization-specific experience. This session is highly interactive and participatory to encourage active learning and engagement with the material. We frequently use scenario “think-through’s,” role-playing, and partner or group activities.
